This is done to improve on our workflow to deliver the best prices to our customers. It does not compromise the quality of the test strips as they are still individually sealed for optimal storage conditions until used.

Why test for ketone levels?

High ketone levels in the blood in an indication that your body is breaking down fats in your body to convert to energy. It is a by product of the conversion of body fat to energy. For many people on the ketone diet that are trying to get their body into ketosis, high levels of ketones (readings of 1.5 mmol/L or greater) is an indication that they are losing fats from the body.

What is the keto or ketone diet?

The ketone diet is similar to the atkins diet, in which carbohydrates are reduced. When this occurs, the body does not have enough instant energy to utilise, so it is forced to draw upon fat reserves.

Can ketone testing be utilised for the purposed of weight loss?

The level of ketones in your body indicates that your body is utilising the body fat to burn as energy. Forcing the body into a state of ketosis is a common strategy used by fitness and sports people to reduce the amount of fat in the body.

Is the ketone or ketosis diet safe?

Ketosis is a normal part of every human body, however it is not recommended to keep the body in a permanent state of high levels of ketosis, especially for diabetics as it can lead to another condition known as diabetic ketoacidosis.

It is recommended that before proceeding with this diet, a medical practitioner is engaged to assist in managing any potential negative side effects.

What is the difference between blood and urine ketone testing?

The ketone levels in urine will fluctuate depending upon how much or how little liquids have been consumed. The testing of ketones in the blood stream is considered to be a more accurate test for the pressence of ketones as consuming more or less water will not greatly affect the reading.

When should ketone testing be done?

Ketone testing should be done at the same time on a regular basis. For example, it should be done at a certain time before or after a particular meal. This will give you the most accurate reading for comparison purposes.

Can ketone testing be utilised for other purposes like dairy cows?

Ketone testing is utilised in many other industries to test levels of ketosis in animals. The dairy industry commonly utlises this test on cows to monitor the health of the animals. Ketosis in cows is a pathological condition which decreases milk quantity and quality, damages fertility and shortens lifespan, all of which severely affect farm revenue. Ketone testing is a very affordable means for testing individual cows for testing without needing to send blood samples to laboratories. Sub-clinical ketosis testing requires a small amount of blood, which is usually drawn from the tail vein using a small syringe and needle. It is a very fast and effective onsite means of testing with each test costing less than $1 dollar.
